The growing for last few years “burn wood” trend in designing brings an ancient charred wood technique back to life. The technique was originally used to preserve wood The process is environmentally friendly and doesn't contribute to harmful pollution. Nowadays, as a current trend in modern architecture, you meet charred wood being used for making furniture and wooden wall panels and artwork. This is because the technique is excellent to fit into both modern and rustic settings.
The shown artwork is a previously sold one. This listing is for 47"x25,5" (120x65cm) piece. We will custom make similar panels of this design. We can customize the dimensions, color (natural or burn), shape and even used spices of tree. Each artwork will be absolutely unique and never exactly the same as shown on pictures.
The slices of wood are stuck to the dark gray (or customized color) painted plywood with strong glue which give this wall hanging an aesthetic outlook. All panels come with tooth hangers attached on the back for quick and easy mounting on a wall.
The process of creation the wooden artwork.
The whole process of making this unique wooden wall art takes much time. Although this process is a lot of fun, a lot of hard work is also done. But the effects are truly rewarding… Starting from claiming the tree to the final finishing, each piece passes through our hands several times. It has to be treated individually with due care and attention to fully bring out its natural beauty and to not interfere with its natural character. We start from finding and buying the tree from state or private forest (larch tree is not very common), then we air dry it for a period of 6 up to 24 (!) months. Afterwards we kiln dry the wood to eliminate insects that lives inside. Then the tree is cleaned, cross cut, shaped (with simple tools), smoothed and sanded. Only now is the time to create an artwork - laying down the mosaic of slices according to the ealier design. Although charred wood is great to preserve wood, we still each piece is impregnated each piece with an organic oil to prevent them from further cracking and color changing.
Our eco approach
We stick to our environmentally friendly approach throughout the entire manufacturing process. We try to utilize the pieces of wood as much as we can. Cut-offs from large wood pieces are used to make smaller forms and decorations. Wood chips provide our workshop with heat. Sawdust goes to a composting facility to prepare fertile ground for other trees and plants.
In order to keep its naturalness and freshness, wood demands the best preparations. Caring for the environment and your comfort, we impregnate our furniture and protect each piece against dust and dirt using organic oils and waxes only. We work with sellected British Fiddes & Son, German Livos and Finnish Tikkurila oils which are based on natural components: linseed oil, waxes, resin and wood oils. The composition of these is either 100 % organic or contains trace amounts of solvents. These oils don’t cover the wood with a chemical skin. Organic oils and waxes enhance the beauty of the wood and protect it very well. And, what is most important: organically impregnated wood does not lose any of its freshness or naturalness!
